Work done in December 2008

Parents, students, staff and members of Commonwork began the improvement to the Green Team Garden on Saturday 6th December. The team gathered from 9:30am dressed in Wellington boots and warm clothing to clear one of the designated allotment areas. The old greenhouse was dismantled and removed. The pond area was changed by firstly re-housing the frogs, toads and newts to the Chapel pond, then removing the surrounding fence, pulling out all the plants and the pond lining and digging over.  The fence posts made a great compost maker (inspirational recycling use thanks to the imagination of Mr. Bunnett. The team uncovered a series of pathways which had been completely grown over and covered in leaves. Trees were pruned, spurs were removed and in some cases small trees, which had planted themselves, were dug out. The raised beds were rejuvenated by weeding and

re-digging. The logs have been made into an insect and bee hotel by stacking them closely together leaving a small gap for the insect’s to crawl into and enjoy.

We would like to say a big thank you to 3663 Edenbridge for supplying the much needed lunch for the troops and many thanks to all who gave up their Saturday to come and help.

This was a very successful day one of our project as a DCSF pilot school for Global Sustainability, in partnership with CommonWork at Bore Place.
