Cashless Catering at St Gregory's
Please remember to top up your child’s catering card as cash is no longer accepted in school. If for any reason you are unable to access the internet the Finance Office can accept card payments over the telephone.
We are able to issue paypoint cards, if necessary, which allow you to credit cash to your child’s catering card at your local paypoint outlet.
Our cashless catering system links with Parentpay so that you are
able to see what your child purchases and how much money they have
left on their cards.
Lost or broken catering cards can be replaced through Parentpay at a cost of £5.00 and the new cards can be collected from the Finance Office.
The Finance Office can be contacted on 01892 527444 ext 100 or ext 101 or by e-mail to finance@sgschool.org.uk

Attendance Guide
Regular attendance at school is very important. Below is some guidance which should help improve attendance and communication with school. This will ensure your child’s attendance is recorded accurately.
“The Education Act 1996 states “If any child of compulsory school age, who is a registered pupil at a school, fails to attend regularly, the parents of the child shall be guilty of an offence”.
- Your child should attend school every day and on time.
- You should contact the school on each and every day of an absence
- You should make every effort to get your child to school even if they are feeling unwell. The school will always contact you if the child deteriorates.
- Make sure the school have the correct contact details especially if there is an emergency.
- Don’t be offended if the school contact you. It is for the safety and welfare of your child.
- If you do have issues that prevent your child from attending, discuss these issues as soon as possible with the school. Do not leave it. Contact the school and ask for an appointment to talk about the problems.
- If your child has any health issues please make sure the school are aware and, if appropriate, can make arrangements, e.g. asthma pumps, Epipen.
- If you feel you need to take leave during term time you must put your request to the Headteacher in writing. It is the Headteacher who has the discretion to authorise the absence, if he feels there are exceptional circumstances to justify this. Each request is taken on individual merit.
- There is no doubt that attendance and achievement go hand in hand. Your child’s attendance is their future.
- Should your child’s attendance remain poor, after all possible intervention, legal proceedings will be considered.
Penalty Notices for Unauthorised Absence
From April 2005, Kent Local Authority introduced Penalty Notices for unauthorised absence from school of at least 10 sessions (5 days) in a current term.
The following circumstances will be considered as appropriate reasons for the issuing of Penalty Notices:
- Truancy
- Parentally condoned absences
- Excessive holidays in term time
- Excessive delayed return from extended holidays
- Persistent lateness after the register has closed.
On receipt of the Notice, the penalty will be £50 per parent if paid within 28 days, rising to £100 per parent if paid after 28 days but within 42 days. Failure to pay the penalty in full by the end of the 42 day period may result in prosecution by the Local Authority.
Please ensure that your child attends school regularly and on time. Please also make sure the school is informed if your child is unable to attend school.
This section of the site is here to keep parents update with letters that have been sent home. We all know letters go missing and for this reason you will be able to download the letter from this very page.

St. Gregory's Development Fund
Background
Since its foundation in 1966, St Gregory’s has evolved with the help of dedicated staff and parents into an effective co-educational
comprehensive school based on Catholic ethos.
Over this period its main achievements have been:
-
the provision of a good education based on gospel values to Catholic families and the families of other Christian denominations;
-
particular care for all students but especially for those with additional educational needs whether those needs are for Gifted and Talented or learning support.
-
Specialist Status in Mathematics and IT;
-
Sportsmark Gold award;
-
A widely recognised Art Department .
Our aim for the future is:
To build upon past successes by providing the very best education for the full diversity of talents and abilities of our students so that each one can develop his or her full potential in a Christian environment with the best facilities that we are able to offer.
Improving the facilities
Education requires both good teaching and a stimulating environment in which to learn and develop.
The School Community is doing its utmost to drive up educational standards further and further. We have some new facilities which are greatly valued and appreciated by staff and students alike.
What we have done
- New IT suite in North building
- Replaced flooring in South building
- Refurbished toilets
- Painted outside of the school
- New purpose-built 6th Form centre
- New Mathematics and IT suite
- New Multi-Use Games area
- New Student Welfare Services
- Refurbished Dining Hall and Kitchen
- Replaced windows and fascias on theupper floors of the North building
- Refurbishment of several areas including the school hall, Food Technology, library and CDT laboratories
- Improved security with new fencing and gates.
What we still need to do
- Restructure and refurbish the Art area
- Enhance the school entrance
- Update the heating system
- Further improve school security
- Replace windows and repair the roof
- Provide further disabled access
What we need
St Gregory’s is a Voluntary Aided School. This means that the School has to contribute 10% towards the cost of all new building projects, building upgrades and all site maintenance.
The 10% contribution has to come from parental donations to the
"St. Gregory’s Development Fund”
The next step
All parents of St Gregory’s students are asked to sign a Standing Order and Gift Aid form to pay to St Gregory’s Development Fund a minimum of £5 per month for a period of at least five years. This is the most effective way for individuals to give their support because the cost of a gift is spread over a number of years. A long-term commitment of this nature will help the Governors to predict future income with a high degree of certainty.
To download a copy of the bank standing order and gift aid forms Click Here.
Other sources of income
The Governing Body constantly seeks additional funding from a variety of sources, which are likely to include trust funds, central government, the Local Authority, local businesses and Diocesan funds, but success from these sources is limited. Parishes have contributed both to new building projects and to regular expenditure and their help has been valued.
