St Gregory’s Equestrian Club: Riding high every week!
We’re excited to share the launch of the St Gregory’s Catholic School Equestrian Club, a fantastic new opportunity for students to experience horse riding and equestrian life. Riders range from complete beginners to those with years of experience, and each session is tailored to suit their individual levels. Whether it’s mastering the basics or refining advanced techniques, every student is supported and encouraged.
The club runs with two groups of eight riders, each attending fortnightly sessions at Riding Farm Equestrian Centre in Hildenborough. This means that every week, a group of students is out riding – learning, laughing, and growing in confidence.
While the focus is firmly on riding, the club also offers a chance to enjoy the outdoors, build physical coordination, and develop perseverance and self-belief. It’s a brilliant way for students to unwind, challenge themselves, and connect with others who share a love of horses.
As part of our Sixth Form Enrichment Programme, Year 12 students are assisting our staff leaders by supporting beginner riders during lessons – leading horses and offering encouragement as new riders master balance and steering. This volunteering opportunity falls under our Sport & Wellbeing Pillar and allows our Sixth Form students to give back to the school community whilst developing their own soft skills ready for higher education and employment.
Mrs Moynihan and Miss Bayley, Equestrian Club co-ordinators, shared: “It’s been amazing to see students from different year groups come together and support one another. The smiles each week say it all.”
We are incredibly proud of how quickly the Equestrian Club has become a highlight of the school week – and we look forward to seeing it develop and grow. If any other students are interested in joining the Club, please contact Mrs Moynihan in the Sixth Form Office, or email fmoynihan@sgschool.org.uk to add their name to the waiting list. At present, the club is full for next term, but we are hoping to offer spaces to more riders in the future.
