Training to teach in St Gregory’s with Teach Kent & Sussex
At St Gregory’s we are proud to work with Teach Kent & Sussex, an outstanding provider of teacher training as rated by Ofsted. This year we are delighted to announce that four of our colleagues have graduated from the Teach Kent & Sussex teacher training programme, all of whom have secured employment, three of which are within St Gregory’s.
The graduates, Mrs Playle, Ms Mackie, Mr Card and Miss Tanton, enjoyed their graduation on Thursday 7 July at the Spa Hotel.
Mrs Playle and Miss Tanton have given their reflections of what it is like to train to teach with Teach Kent & Sussex in St Gregory’s.
Miss Tanton: Completing my ITT year with Teach Kent & Sussex at St Gregory’s has been the best training experience I could have hoped for. Since day one I have felt like part of the team and have been given countless opportunities to learn how to be an effective teacher, both in the classroom and the wider life of the school. The encouragement and support I received from school staff has been excellent. It is particularly helpful to work with a number of staff who also trained with Teach Kent & Sussex. This year has equipped me to go into my first teaching job confidently, knowing that I can make a difference in the lives of my students!
Mrs Playle: Training to teach with Teach Kent & Sussex provided me with a solid foundation of pedagogical knowledge on which to base my teaching practice. The course was both informative and well-organised and I particularly enjoyed the variety of placements which were arranged for me. I feel very fortunate to have had a friendly and supportive school like St Gregory's as my main placement school. From day one I was treated as part of the team, and everyone was incredibly generous both with their time and expertise. I had many opportunities to observe excellent teaching both within my own department and throughout the school, which proved invaluable in improving my own teaching practice. I am delighted to be staying on at St Gregory's when I qualify.
Are you, or is someone you know, interested in training to be a teacher?
You will know the value of being taught by a great teacher. Great teaching can inspire students and transform the opportunities available to them. In order for that to continue to happen, St Gregory’s is part of a growing number of schools that train our own teachers directly. By recruiting the very best talent to train to teach we believe we can continue to achieve the very best outcomes for our students.
You, or someone you know, could be a part of that new generation of great teachers and equip our students with the knowledge they need to succeed.
At St Gregory’s we offer a School Direct route into teaching in partnership with two School Centred Initial Teacher Training Programmes (SCITT’s); Teach Kent and Sussex and KMT Mascalls Academy Training Partnership.
As part of both partnerships we offer a school based route into teaching for high quality graduates and are currently offering a number of training places in different subjects here at St Gregory’s School. Our aim is to support the development of outstanding teachers who will have a huge positive impact upon our pupils and will themselves flourish as excellent teachers.
Both of our partnerships ensure that;
- You will work with local schools in Kent and Sussex who are dedicated to developing outstanding teachers and leaders for the future.
- You will have a comprehensive Professional Studies programme delivered by experienced teachers who are specialists in their respective fields.
- You will have the support of a number of experienced teachers, including a subject mentor and a team of Professional Mentors both within your placement school and the SCITT.
- You will also have the support of one of our accredited training providers.
We are delighted to announce that Teach Kent and Sussex has been awarded an OFSTED Outstanding School Centre for Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) for primary and secondary schools in Kent and Sussex in 2020.
