"Teaching is outstanding with examples of exemplary practice in all subject areas and all years. Students learn extremely well because enthusiastic teachers give them stimulating tasks, well-structured paths towards understanding and clear guidance on how to improve their work."

Catholic Schools Inspectorate

On Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 June 2024 we were visited by the Catholic Schools Inspectorate. This inspection was the first the school has experienced under the rigorous new National Inspection Framework introduced in late 2022. We were judged Outstanding for Catholic Life and Mission and Good for both Religious Education and Collective Worship.

GCSE success at St Gregory's

Our Year 11 students have once again demonstrated their dedication, hard work and focus by achieving exemplary GCSE and other Level 2 results this year.

We are delighted that so many of our students have achieved the grades they require for their chosen paths with over 70% of Year 11s receiving a grade 4 or higher in both English and Mathematics, and almost half of students gaining a grade 5 or higher in both subjects.

While there are too many individual successes to list them all, we would like to highlight a few students who deserve special recognition:

•  Edward Evans achieved eight grade 9s, one grade 8 and one grade 7.

•  Florrie McIver-Hall achieved six grade 9s and four grade 8s.

•  Pradipta Panthi achieved five grade 9s, one grade 8, and four grade 7s.

•  Ann Renny achieved five grade 8s and five grade 7s.

•  Caitlin Travell secured four grade 9s, a Distinction, and all of her subjects graded at 7 and above.

Congratulations to all our Year 11 students for their hard work and remarkable success this year. We are incredibly proud of each one of you!

Mike Wilson, Headteacher, commented, “I am thrilled to celebrate the exceptional achievements of our Year 11 students today. Their well-deserved results are an indication of the hard work, determination and resilience they have shown over the last five years.  I would like to thank their teachers, support staff and families for the invaluable support and guidance they have provided to enable these outcomes.

It is important to note that the academic success we are celebrating today is just one aspect of the excellent, rounded education our students have enjoyed at St Gregory’s. All students should be proud of their academic achievements, but also with their personal, spiritual and emotional growth, as they continue to realise their God-given potential.

Our students have faced numerous challenges and have risen to each one with perseverance and a positive attitude. Their success today is well deserved, and I am immensely proud of each and every one of them.

As they move on to the next stage of their educational journey, whether continuing with further studies, apprenticeships, or other pathways, I wish them the very best of luck. I am confident that they will continue to excel and achieve great things in the future.”

A Level celebration at St Gregory’s

Students at St Gregory’s Catholic School achieved fantastic A Level results this year with 41% of students gaining A*-B grades and 13% of all grades being graded A* or A. Given the challenges faced by this cohort in recent years, our students should be immensely proud of the results they have achieved.

Overall, 72% of students achieved A*-C grades with a 99% pass rate. We are especially pleased with our BTEC results too, with 31% of our students achieving an equivalent of A* or A grades, and 100% pass rate. All the staff, students and families today celebrated the results following the hard work and dedication shown over the last two years.

We are also delighted that most of our students have achieved high A Level grades or equivalent across the three subjects they have studied. As a consequence, the majority of our students have secured their first-choice places at university, in apprenticeship or in employment.

Angela Morrissey, Head of Sixth Form said, “These results are a testament to all the students and their dedicated teachers. We are really thrilled for them all and proud of all they have achieved.”

Mike Wilson, Headteacher commented, “I am absolutely delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our A Level students today. Their remarkable results are a testament to the hard work, determination, and resilience they have shown throughout their studies. These accomplishments are not only a reflection of their dedication, but also of the unwavering support they have received from their teachers and families.

Students have tackled their studies with courage and persistence, and their success today is richly deserved. I am incredibly proud of what they have achieved, and I have every confidence that they will continue to excel in their future endeavours.

As they take their next steps - whether into higher education, apprenticeships, or the world of work - I wish them all the very best. The future is bright, and I know they will continue to make us proud.”
