Travel to School

Student Conduct
Students should wear full uniform for the whole of the journey to and from school. Students are reminded that their behaviour on the journey gives a message to the general public about the standards and values of the school. Courteous and safe behaviour is therefore insisted on at all times.

By Bus
For students living in Kent, any questions about transport arrangements should be directed to the Transport Team at Kent County Council Public Transport - telephone 03000 41 84 84, or visit their website: www.kent.gov.uk/education-and-children/schools/school-transport/KCC-travel-saver

For students living in East Sussex, any questions about transport arrangements should be directed to 01273 335088.

Applications for assistance should be made in the Summer Term of Year 6. Students with passes travelling to school on contract services must ensure they know the route and the drop-off/pick-up points before the start of the school year. All other students travelling to and from school by public transport will need to check timetables and routes before the start of the school year. Parents are responsible for ensuring that their child catches a service that gets them to school by 8.30am for an 8.40am start.

For those students living in Kent, the KCC Travel Saver provides young people with up to 50% saving on the cost of their travel to and from school.

  • Further guidance on home to school transport, including fees, is available from Kent County Council. Please note that applications can only be made online.
  • Children in receipt of Free School Meals will pay a significantly reduced fee.
  • A Young Carer or a Young Person in Care or a Care Leaver will not pay any fee.
  • Applications must be made before the specified deadline to ensure bus pass is ready for collection on the first day of term.

If any parents wish to find out more about this, please visit the website: KCC Travel Saver

By Foot
The school can be accessed either via the public footpath along Reynolds Lane, or by using the public footpath from St John’s Road. Students should not access the school through the entrance to Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys on St John’s Road. The gate from the St John’s Road footpath will close at the start of the school day.

By Car
Parking: Parents MUST NOT drive into the school premises or turn in the entrance to routinely drop off or collect students.

It is extremely hazardous to have cars moving in the confines of the school’s upper car park when it is busy with pedestrians. The entrance from the road is also very narrow which is why we operate a one-way system for staff cars arriving to avoid potential collisions at the entrance. Please do not drop off nearby to the school entrance either, as students will then be required to walk along the narrow lane (which has no footpath) to access the school via our busy vehicle entrance.

The following alternative drop off points can be used:

  • Yew Tree Road car park
  • Fusions Sports Centre car park off St John’s Road (students can then access the school via the footpath and rear pedestrian gate which is opened at 8.00am).

Please do not park in Majestic Wine’s car park, nor at the Cross Keys, on Reynold’s Lane or the roads adjoining it. The only times parents and carers should drive into the school is to collect students who become unwell during the school day, for pre-arranged meetings with school staff*, if the student has special permission for medical/other reasons or to collect students after 4pm. A small number of students are dropped off in the car park for medical reasons which we are aware of.

*If attending an appointment in school, please note there is only very limited visitor parking spaces available in the car park near our main entrance.

By Train
The closest railway stations to St Gregory’s are Tunbridge Wells and High Brooms. Both stations are on the London (Charing Cross) to Hastings service operated by Southeastern. Students can purchase a 16-25 Railcard (also known as the Young Persons Railcard) to help save money on their travel costs

Cycling
We offer bike racks on site for students and staff who wish to cycle to school, providing a safe and convenient place to secure their bicycles. Motorised scooters and motorised skateboards are not permitted on site.

Our Values

Ambition Rooted firmly in Catholic teachings, we aim to nurture and guide our students to fulfil their God-given potential so they may achieve success.

Leadership We strive to be a community of servant leaders, where individuals gain a clear sense of self and purpose, knowing their values and using these to guide how they enrich the community in which they belong.

Integrity We teach our students to value honesty and have strong moral principles, using their discernment to govern their actions and take responsibility for their choices.

Vigour Inspired by the life of St Gregory, we empower our students to work with vigour, so they approach all activities and opportunities with effort, energy and enthusiasm.

Empathy We aim for our students to understand and value the feelings of others and for them to know they are loved and celebrated irrespective of their differences.
