GCSE results day 2023
Thu 24 Aug 2023We are very proud of our Year 11 students at St Gregory’s Catholic School. As a large and inclusive Catholic school with 239 students, we feel our students have risen to the challenge with great resilience and rigour, after the uncertainty of the last few years. With the news that examination results are working towards the pre-pandemic levels, we are especially proud of all our students’ achievements this year.
Overall, 75% of students secured a good grade in English and Maths combined, with 16% of grades in the higher 9-7 range. Including our BTEC qualifications, 56% of our students achieved grades 9-5 and 75% achieved grades 9-4. It is currently difficult to put a value on the Progress 8 (the main measure of GCSEs) as these will be confirmed by the DfE in October. However, St Gregory’s feels this will be a positive outcome, indicating students make good progress during their time in the main school.
Some standout results are:
Zachary (9 grade 9s)
Sum Yin (6 grade 9s)
Michael (5 grade 9s)
Julia (5 grade 9s)
Frederic (4 grade 9s)
Amy (3 grade 9s)
Abby, Thomas and Rourke all received 2 grade 9s
Pauline Kerr, Deputy Headteacher said, “We are delighted with these results, and are very proud of our students accomplishments. They have worked incredibly hard and have deserved to achieve so well. We look forward to continuing to work with the vast majority of them as they join us in the Sixth Form.’
Phil Byrne, Headteacher said, “We are so happy and proud of our results, and the outcomes of our students. With the challenges they have faced over the last few years, they have achieved some great results and secured their futures. This is a testament to their hard work, and support from their families and staff at St Gregory’s. During my first year at the school, I have been very impressed with our Year 11 students and these results are proof of this. We are looking forward to many of our students joining our Sixth Form and continuing their success. We also wish students moving on, all the best, and they will know that they will always be part of the family here at St Gregory’s.”
