  • Pyjama Day Fun

    Wed 09 Feb 2022

Last Friday our sixth formers had a PJ day to raise money in aid of Action Aid. Even some members of staff joined in too!

This is what one of our sixth formers told us:

'We thought it would be a bit of fun to do a pyjama themed fundraising event in support for action aid! Action aid supports women and children suffering in humanitarian crisis.

We strongly believe this charity saves lives which is why we were extremely eager to raise money and make a difference.

Additionally, we sold cakes to other students and staff (beautifully made by our lead student team) which went down very well. In the end, we managed to raise a pleasing £149.95 for charity and overall, everyone had a great day'.

Well done and congratulations to all our sixth formers who participated and raised this fantastic amount of money for such a worthy cause.

  • Safer Internet Day

    Tue 08 Feb 2022

    đź’» Safer Internet Day đź’»

Today we will be joining schools and youth organisations across the UK in celebrating Safer Internet Day 2022.

Safer Internet Day is a global campaign to promote the safe

and responsible use of technology, which calls on young people, parents, carers, teachers, social workers, law enforcement, companies, policymakers and more, to join together in helping to create a better internet.

Using the internet safely and positively is a key message that we promote in school, and celebrating Safer Internet Day is a great opportunity for us to re-emphasise the online safety messages we deliver throughout the year. Some of the activities we’ll be participating in today include:

Year 7: Up your Game (Gaming/online behaviour)

Year 8: Safer internet Day Quiz

Year 9: Cool to be unkind (Internet conduct)

    Year 10: Moral Compass

    Y11: Social Media vs gaming

We would be delighted if you could join us in celebrating the day by continuing the conversation at home. To help you with this, you may be interested in downloading the free Safer Internet Day Resources for Parents and Carers which is available at: saferinternet.org.uk/sid-parents.

There are top tips, quizzes, and films which you can use at home with your child.

Some other resources which you may find helpful in supporting your child online are:

â—Ź Tips, advice and guides for parents and carers from the UK Safer Internet Centre

    (saferinternet.org.uk/parents)

â—Ź Advice for parents and carers from Childnet (childnet.com/parents-and-carers)

â—Ź Reviews and information about games, apps, TV shows and websites from Common Sense Media (commonsense.org)

â—Ź Help on using parental controls and privacy settings from Internet Matters (internetmatters.org./controls)

â—Ź Information and reporting of online grooming or sexual abuse from CEOP (ceop.police.uk)

Along with this there are some age specific support materials and resources for Parents and Carers to access to help your child/children in developing healthy on-line behaviour and keep them safe at home.

Online safety is an important issue which as a school we’re committed to teaching our students about.

If you have any concerns or questions about keeping your child safe online, please do get in touch with your child’s review tutor or myself.

  • 'Keep Britain Tidy's Young Litter Hero of the Year Awards'.

    Thu 03 Feb 2022

One of our students Danny, is amongst 20 young people aged from 10-18, who have been selected by Eco-schools, to form a new Eco-Committee, which will be the first ever National Eco-Committee in England.

These determined young people will support the Eco-Schools Team at Keep Britain Tidy as they try to ensure that all those in education have the opportunity to learn about environmental themes such as climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss.

Danny, who is very proud of his achievement, now appears on the Eco-Schools website. He is very excited about the year ahead being part of something that he feels is so important.

We wish Danny luck with the awards ceremony, taking place in Birmingham next month.
