  • Creative Translation

    Wed 11 Jan 2023

Our students have been given the opportunity for an extra-curricular activity exploring the possibilities of creative translation.

The programme, organised by Oxford University, will culminate in a national translation competition which will be judged by a team of Oxford undergraduates and professional translators to select regional and national winners.

In preparation for the competition, each week our students will be bringing translation to life by focusing on translating poetry, fiction, and literary non-fiction. This week, they spent time translating a recipe for the Epiphany - El Roscon for Spanish and La Galette des Rois for French.

  • Year 7 delivers Morning Prayer in BSL (British Sign Language)

    Thu 05 Jan 2023

A school with a deaf resource base as vibrant and encouraging as the St Francis de Sale Centre for the Deaf at St Gregory's, really highlights the importance of inclusivity in and out of the classroom. It is great for our students to see British Sign Language (BSL) in all parts of their school day, and this motivated Miss Englishby to teach her Year 7 Tutor group to start learning to sign their prayers.

Miss Englishby aims to further integrate the use of BSL in her day-to-day lessons this year, which will give all the students the tools and encouragement to use it outside of the classroom too.

  • Student plays Cricket in Oman

    Thu 03 Nov 2022

One of our Year 10 students, has just spent a week on a cricket tour to Oman playing in the Under 15s with her club 'The Mote CC'.

Abi had an amazing trip playing 3 matches (two T20s and a 40 over day/night match) and played well in all three games. In the 40 over match, she scored 21 runs. Her bowling figures were 3 overs, 1 wicket for 12 runs and she also took a high catch in difficult conditions under floodlights. All three games were played in 35°C temperatures, which was a first for the squad. She was the only girl playing in the squad of 12.

Her parents said 'It was a fantastic experience for her and her team including a trip to a mosque and the souq (local market). They also went on a boat trip and managed to see turtles, several species of fish, and were lucky to see a large pod of dolphins.

She will have great memories from her trip to Oman'.

They also took the time to speak to some of our Sixth Form students, reflecting on following the desires God has placed in our hearts and sharing some of their testimony.

  • Equestrian rider wins first place

    Wed 19 Oct 2022

Our Equestrian team have had a busy start to the academic year and Iris in Year 8 did particularly well representing the school in competitions throughout September.

We are very pleased to say that Iris won a recent Show Jumping event at Felbridge and earnt herself a first-place rosette out of the 33 riders who competed.

Then, to follow on from this success, Iris also achieved a first in Show Jumping at Hickstead on the Sunshine Tour.  Her score meant she came eighth in this championship as a whole.

A massive well done to Iris and many congratulations to all our Equestrian team for their accomplishments.

  • World Space Week

    Fri 07 Oct 2022

This week is World Space Week. To celebrate, a group of Year 9 students took part in a live assembly talk, looking at the James Webb Space Telescope.

The telescope allows us to explore from the outskirts of our own Solar System to the most distant galaxies in the Universe.

Our Values

Ambition Rooted firmly in Catholic teachings, we aim to nurture and guide our students to fulfil their God-given potential so they may achieve success.

Leadership We strive to be a community of servant leaders, where individuals gain a clear sense of self and purpose, knowing their values and using these to guide how they enrich the community in which they belong.

Integrity We teach our students to value honesty and have strong moral principles, using their discernment to govern their actions and take responsibility for their choices.

Vigour Inspired by the life of St Gregory, we empower our students to work with vigour, so they approach all activities and opportunities with effort, energy and enthusiasm.

Empathy We aim for our students to understand and value the feelings of others and for them to know they are loved and celebrated irrespective of their differences.
